Setting the Fire Alarm Design Criteria

This presentation will outline the process of determining what codes and standards apply, guidance in reviewing construction documents to determine design criteria, the necessary coordination with other fire protection systems and working with the AHJ.

Deborah Shaner, owner of Shaner Life Safety, is a practicing Fire Protection Engineer with special expertise in fire alarm design.  She holds a BS in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a MS in Fire Protection Engineering from University of Maryland  Her company, Shaner Life Safety, was formed in 2001 and is located in Frisco, Colorado.  Ms. Shaner is registered as a Fire Protection Engineer in Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico and Nebraska.  As a consultant, Ms. Shaner has participated in a wide range of projects including schools, casinos, military bases, high rise buildings, hospitals and resorts.  She is a member of various NFPA code committees including 72, 101, 1141, 1142 and 1144.  She serves as a member of the AFAA Board of Directors currently.
