The National Disability Rights Network & the Fire Alarm Industry Update

Who are these guys and how are they helping our industry?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when passed in 1990, included provisions creating a ‘protection and advocacy’ agency in every state and territory to ensure the rights of individuals with disabilities were being enhanced. The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is the national organization of those state based entities. The NDRN is the group responsible for the wheelchair access curb cuts at intersections and the lift assist hoists you see at swimming pools.

The webinar will provide an overview of the NDRN and their efforts to affect the code development process and the notification provisions of the ADA, now and in the future.

Since the passage of the ADA in 1990 the NDRN has worked hard to get individuals with disabilities INTO buildings. Beginning in 2016 we began to pay attention to the importance of getting OUT. We have now included ‘life safety’ into our efforts to enhance ‘life style’… and the Fire Alarm Industry is a natural partner in those efforts.

Participants will learn how we can help each other achieve mutually beneficially goals.
