We live in a dangerous world and wise organizations need to plan in advance for the unexpected. This includes analyzing the needs for mass notification and emergency communication systems.
Both the ICC and NFPA© codes require a Risk Analysis for all Mass Notification System designs and installations, including specific requirements for certain occupancies. NFPA 72© Chapter 24 contains specific requirements for using a risk analysis and the building emergency plan to ensure that the emergency communications system is designed to meet the owner’s emergency communications goals.
This presentation will provide an introduction to the mass notification risk analysis process including who is qualified to perform a risk analysis, how is a risk analysis prepared, who approves a risk analysis and what do current codes require and what future changes to the code are being considered. This will supply the basics of mass notification risk analysis for owners, designers, and AHJ’s alike.
